The ProAction hockey league was started 6 years ago with an idea from members of the Don Mills Civitans, The City of Toronto Parks and Recreation, and Police Officers from 54 Division, Toronto Police Service. The goal was to bring organized ice hockey to one of Toronto’s priority neighbourhoods, Flemingdon Park. Shortly after the program started, it was expanded to include youth from Thorncliffe Park. With the support of ProAction Cops and Kids and Canadian Tire Jumpstart , sixty-four 8-11 year old kids were outfitted with equipment and took to the ice in year one.
Police Officers conduct 10 week hockey school program which lead into a 15 week organized hockey season. With the leagues success, the PAHL program has tripled in size in over the last 4 to 5 years .
